About Mark Leue
Mark Leue specializes in stringed instrument restoration, and optimization of set-up and tone production. Mark works closely with the musician to bring the player and the instrument into harmony with each other. In 1978, after studying guitar-making with Charles Fox, I opened a storefront shop in Albany, New York. There I hand built acoustic, steel-string, and classical guitars, did repairs, and set-up all kinds of stringed instruments.
I started buying and selling vintage instruments, and found that the repair and restoration of antique instruments was a wonderful way of learning from the work of master craftsmen of years past. Wanting to learn more from the unbroken traditions of European luthiers, I was privileged to be able to study violin-making with Karl Roy of the Mittenwald school and restoration with Hans Nebel, who worked under Simone Sacconi.
