SOLD-Kay 7942, 1939 C-4  model, $3,000

The C-4 model Kay is the blond finish, viol shaped  bass Kay produced about 100 of in the years immediately before WW2. Another oddity of these rather rare models is they all used a 4 piece outer spruce veneer, with clearly visible glue joints. 

This one was in quite bad condition when we obtained it, missing the neck, the G side upper rib entirely, and the entire back veneer was also missing!

Luckily Kay parts are quite exchangeable and an upper rib and undamaged neck were available from a 1950’s  donor bass. The back veneer, vacuum bagged on was new. 

Sound and playability is quite good now and this
