Juzek  labeled bass circa 1930 $5,900

This very easy to play and fantastic sounding bass, is likely made within a few miles of the Czech border, one side or another, either just before or during WW2.

I do not think it is from the usual source, the shop of the Wilfer family of makers.

As many of these Juzek labeled basses as I’ve seen, I am often surprised by differences in string and neck length even though the general dimensions of the bodies are quite similar in most instances.

It lacks the typical purling decoration near the back button of the Wilfer basses, and the shorter string length but longer (Eb) neck stop is unusual . Here are the measures: Upper bout 19-1/4” ,Lower bout 25-5/8” ,String length 41-1/8”, Eb heel stop.

The bass has had recent  “top off”  repairs, and all cracks are solidly glued and cleated, by various generations of repairers.  The ebony is extra thick and the neck has a small amount of “scoop” which makes for very easy string action if needed. Includes a used Mooradian cover. The bass is here on a consignment basis, and the seller is motivated to sell.
