German made laminated bass 7/8 size circa 1950’s.
This is a really nice condition maybe mid 1950’s laminated bass with a very long vibrating string length of 43-3/4.”
The arching is full and strong and the body size is generous, but not more than most larger 3/4 size basses, so it feels quite normal to play or move around with. The result is a very loud bass which reminds me of an American Standard more than a Kay bass in sound and feel. I think this would be a good bass regardless of string choice, but that extra 2-1/4” (over the average 3/4 size with it’s 41-12’ string length) might work out very well for gut strings, and sounds super punchy and sustaining with D’addario Zyex, a synthetic core string.
The heel stop is a D at the g string.
Condition looks very good all over. I believe someone reset the neck in years past. I have just done a full set up with a new height adjustable bridge, endpin and careful adjustments to fingerboard, nut and soundpost.
