1939 Kay C-1
$1850
This is an unusual Kay bass which was sold to the Selmer company as an unfinished instrument completed in their Elkhart, Indiana shop and labeled as a "Manhattan by Selmer" (model 4506, serial #5664).
Selmer gave it a thick ebony fingerboard and Czech made tuners, and a rather ugly varnish.
Since that time it has had a good neck reset and set up, and has been poorly overvarnished.
I'm selling it on the low end of the price range because aesthetically it's a bit of an ugly duckling, but it gets high marks for structural integrity and playability.
