"Scratch and Dent" basses generally are new basses that have some cosmetic damage, or used basses that are a bit beat up. Either the damage is cosmetic only, or the repair is solid enough we have no concerns about its longevity, but it still is worth less. See also "Mojo Series"  and "Beginner basses"
